Congratulations to the 2022 winners!

The 2022 Cup.

Kevin Last is the best of show winner this year! Congratulations to Kevin on his Schwarzbier!

Another special congratulations to Renee Weinberger and J.D. Blythin for their German Pils. It won our special Stein Challenge category – which was a head to head challenge of all traditional German styles that scored a 39 or better.

Check out all the winners here!

We really appreciate the support of all the volunteers and judges this year. Judging was smooth and enjoyable – helped by the excellent entry quality! You all are brewing great stuff!

A special thanks to our host, the Delafield Brewhaus. This competition would not be possible without their generous support.

Finally, a shout out to all of our sponsors this year who donated things that we will be shipping along to the winners with their medals.

We’ll see you next year!

2022 Entry Registration opens on Oct 29th

We are ready for entry registration to open up on October 29th. It will stay open until the delivery/drop-off deadline of November 26th. We have an entry limit of 200 entries this year.

We will be using BCOEM to register participants and entries this year, and flightcap.io for judging (see example scoresheet here). If you would like to help us as a judge, please let us know by signing up and registering as a judge!

We are excited to announce an additional head-to-head award table this year: The Stein Challenge. Any German or Czech beer that scores over 35 will be eligible for a best-of-show style award in which the winner will take home an award stein. Thanks to the Beer Barons of Milwaukee for sponsoring The Stein Challange this year!

As always, the cup is up for grabs this year as well. It’s a beautiful piece of hardware that goes to the overall best of show.

December 10th, 2022!

Just a quick note here to let you know that we are on for 2022. We’ll be turning over the registration system in the next week, so stay tuned! Details regarding registration and judging windows will come soon!

Cheers!

Woo! Congrats to the winners!

We are pleased to announce the winners of the 2021 Schnapp Hans Cup! Please take some time to check out the list of winners on the competition site.

There were a few entrants who took home multiple medals, but our Best of Show winner, Caleb Meinke took home 10!

Thanks to everyone who entered this year. I hope you find your feedback informative and encouraging. You can find your scoresheets attached to your entries once you log into your account with BCOEM. We will be mailing out the medals next week.

Once again, we are dedicating this competition to the late brewmaster at the Delafield Brewhaus, John Harrison. The Delafield Brewhaus has been the host of this competition since its inception and this competition was a labor of love for John.

We look forward to next year. Keep brewing and stay safe out there!

Dedicating the 2021 Competition to John Harrison

Hello friends. We are excited to bring back the Schnapp Hans Cup this year and missed you all in 2020. As we announce the 2021 Cup competition, our hearts are heavy with the loss of the man behind starting this competition: John Harrison.

John was the brewmaster at the Delafield Brewhaus and an advocate of lagers and homebrewers. He graciously opened up the brewery for us, helped us organize the competition through the years, and thoroughly enjoyed welcoming the Best of Show winner each year to brew their recipe with him on the Brewhaus system.

We will miss him and his positive presence greatly, and henceforth the trophy cup will be known as the John Harrison memorial cup.

Given the loss of John and the looming trails of Covid, the 2021 competition will be a little different this year.

  • We will still be running a limited-category BJCP competition – only the styles that John allowed in the past
  • We will have a slightly smaller entry limit (250 entries)
  • We will be using electronic scoresheets created by the online judging software flightcap.io (This is the same tool we use for Midwinter this year, and we have tweaked the scoresheets a bit based on feedback)
  • We will not be having a ramp-up of the Best in Show winner this year – perhaps it will come back in the future but it’s unavailable in 2021

Anyway, please mark your calendars. The competition is on October 23rd. The entry window will be open until October 8th.

Please visit the competition registration page to register. Oh, and if you are local, please consider signing up as a volunteer!

We’ll see you in 2021

I hope it’s not terribly unexpected, but we have decided to postpone The Cup until 2021. Given the current pandemic, we just aren’t able to deliver the kind of competition we want to run in 2020.

A big thanks to our sponsors who are just as excited about 2021 as we are.

Keep brewing, and we’ll see ya back next year!

Hey, we have some winners!

The winners for the 2019 Schnapp Hans Cup have been posted. Please check out the competition website to see the results! https://schnapphanscup.com/competition/

Congratulations to Jeff Landers for winning the Best of Show with his Session IPL. It was quite excellent. We are looking forward to the IPL ramp-up and can’t wait to taste it in all its glory!

Overall, the competition was stiff this year. We had many great entries from all over the country, and even several coming in from Sweden!

We enjoy putting this competition on and are thankful to our volunteers and our sponsors: Nothern Brewer, The Purple Foot, The Delafield Brewhaus, and The Beer Barons of Milwaukee. If you get a chance, patronize these guys. Or in the case of the Barons, come and join us for a meeting sometime.

Congratulations to all the winners.

Keep on brewing! We’ll be back again in 2020!

No award ceremony this year

Hey guys, due to some logistical complications this year, the medals will be arriving to out HQ about a week after judging is completed, so we won’t have any hardware to hand out. Also, since we are moving to electronic delivery of scoresheets, we won’t have the scoresheets available to hand out either.

Given these circumstances, we’ve decided to hold off on holding a ceremony on the evening of October 5th. This also let us get home in time to relieve our respective babysitters at a reasonable hour!

That said, we will be announcing the winners as soon as our Best of Show judging is completed. And if you are the lucky BOS winner, you’ll be getting an exciting phone call, and an open invitation to come down and meet John Harrison (head brewer at the Brewhaus).

Medals will be mailed out within a week or two, and scoresheets will start popping up in your inbox.

Thanks for understanding, and best of luck to all who entered.

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, the Brewhaus will be open and bumping on Saturday. Come on by and have a pint, some delicious food, and watch a homebrew competition in action!

We are sorted, and judging has commenced

Thanks to my fellow judges who helped us knock out the first couple of tables for this competition last night. We had a great time and enjoyed some fine beers. We are looking forward to a small Thursday night session before wrapping things up on Saturday.

Good luck to all who entered!
